Editor and commentator on ancient Greek poetic texts, primarily from the 5th and 4th centuries BCE, but with interests reaching back into the Homeric period, on the one hand, and the Roman and Byzantine worlds, on the other. Most significant achievements include full-scale modern texts and commentaries on four Aristophanic comedies.
