General information

Name of the project: Non-destructive control and diagnostics in manufacturing

Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development Priority Level: а

Goals and objectives

Research directions: Methods and means of non-destructive testing (radiation, ultrasound, optical) and development of software for visualization and processing images in radiation, ultrasound and optical control

Project objective: Creation of an international research and educational laboratory for non-destructive testing within the structure of the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University which corresponds to one of the five high priority directions of development of the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University: non-destructive testing and diagnostics in manufacturing and social domains

The practical value of the study

  • We have created a prototype of induction positron accelerator with the energy of 3,5 MeV, a source of positrons for the accelerator.
  • A betatron-based pulse positron injector has been developed as well as an efficient magnetic system for positron acceleration.
  • The TOLMI-150-10 tomograph has been created.
  • A electron positron annihilation spectrometer has been created.
  • We have created an eddy-current defectoscope for controlling cylindrical products.
  • We have created a technology and a prototype of an ultrasound tomograph for controlling nuclear waste containers.
  • The Laboratory has developed technologies and systems for ultrasound quality control of objects with complex geometry made of composite materials.
  • We have developed a technology for ultrasound tomography of composite products and created the biggest robotised ultrasound tomography device.
  • Our researchers have developed special software for controlling the X-ray and ultrasound tomography subsystems, the optical tomography subsystem.
  • We have created experimental subsystems of digital X-ray and ultrasound tomography, optical tomography, an experimental automated workplace.
  • The Laboratory has developed software and methodologies for testing special software, experimental subsystems for digital X-ray, ultrasound tomography and optical topography.

Implemented results of research:

  • The technology of ultrasound tomography of composite products and the largest robotised ultrasound tomography device in Russia have been implemented in the Research Institute of Electrophysical Equipment - NIIEFA (a division of the «Rosatom» corporation).
  • The intelligent combined automated system for digital machining enterprises has been implemented into the production line of the «Tomsk Electromechanical named after V. V. Vakhrushev».

Education and career development:

  • One doctoral dissertation, 5 candidate dissertations, 15 bachelor degree theses, 3 specialist degree theses, 8 master degree theses have been defended.
  • 7 undergraduate students and 3 undergraduate students are currently receiving additional training in collaborative scientific research programs at international research and education centres. 4 postgraduate students and 2 undergraduate students have participated in international and Russian research and practice conferences. 4 postgraduate students and 3 undergraduate students have presented the work of the Laboratory at various conferences.
