General information
Alan Forrest received a PhD degree from the University of Oxford in 1971. For more than 20 years he worked as a professor of New Age history at the University of York, he published a large number of works in history of the French revolutionary and Napoleonic armies, the peculiarities of the military draft, desertion and motivation of servicemen, as well as related to the specifics of formation of the historical memory of the Napoleonic era. In 1997-2000 Prof. Forrest was the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at the same university and in 2004-2010 he was the head of the Centre for Eighteenth Century Studies. In 2005-2015 Prof. Forrest was the president of the international Commission on the History of French Revolution of the Eighteenth Century. 12 dissertations in history supervised by Prof. Forrest have been defended.

Under the leadership of Prof. Forrest in 2005-2009 the project «Nations, borders and identity: the European experience in the era of revolutionary and Napoleonic wars» was implemented within a grant from the British Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
