General information

Name of the project: Space research and technologies, astronomy, mathematical modeling and space flight dynamics

Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development Priority Level: е

Goals and objectives

Research directions: Space research and technologies

Project objective: Study of celestial mechanics that are applied to development of space missions for detecting and classification of asteroids and comets that pass near the Earth, including analysis of potential possibility of collision; determining optical trajectories of flights beyond low Earth orbits, development of optimal methods of changing orbits of asteroids and comets to prevent their collisions with the Earth

The practical value of the study

  • We have developed a concept of prevention of collision of the Earth with dangerous asteroids. As a method of deflection of dangerous objects we propose usage of relatively minor asteroids directed by conveying velocity pulses with subsequent gravitational slingshots near Earth towards dangerous objects. Aggregate characteristic velocity of mission is viewed as the optimized functional. Decreasing this parameter allows to reduce fuel consumption and increase workload mass of scientific equipment.
  • Our researchers have investigated of the ballistic part of the «spectrum – X-ray – gamma» project that indicated possibility of selection of such parameters of trajectory of flight to the vicinity of the L2 libration point that would ensure maintenance of the spacecraft from ground stations on the territory of Russia over the set duration of the mission.
