General information

Name of the project:

Cloud wireless networks of the fifth and subsequent technologies

Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development Priority Level: е

Goals and objectives

Developing a new cloud architecture for wireless networks based on concepts of programmatically configured networks and virtualization of network functions as well as new algorithms of network control that can meet requirements set for networks of the fifth (5G) and subsequent generations, such as super high data transmission rate, ultra low latency, low energy intensity, high mobility of users, support of a vast number of devices in the network etc

The practical value of the study

  • The Laboratory has developed a new architecture of wireless network of the fifth and later generations that implements multilevel division of functions for radio access network.
  • We have developed and investigated a new system called xStream and the xNode network hypervisor for cross-level interaction between applications and network infrastructure.
  • An algorithm has been developed for traffic classification that divides traffic into groups according to application types (web, video streams, super-secure communications) and support of the xStream platform.
  • We have developed new algorithms for controlling connection of a big number of devices to Wi-Fi HaLow networks.
  • Our Laboratory has developed algorithms of radio resources allocation in dense wireless networks, including Wi-Fi 802.11ax networks.
  • For the first time in the world we have developed hardware and software prototype of Wi-Fi device supporting transmission and receipt in the non-orthogonal multiple access mode. We investigated productivity of a simple network of such devices. Results were submitted to the IEEE 802 standardization committee.
  • We have developed and studied a complex of new algorithms for serving traffic for creating super failsafe cellular networks of the fifth generation.
Implemented results of research:
Results of the project raised great interest from manufacturers of telecommunication devices. We are working on its implementation. Apart from that, some results were submitted to the IEEE 802 committee that develops Wi-Fi.

Other results:

  • We are organizing a series of international scientific seminars in telecommunications «Moscow Telecommunication Seminar» with direct participation of the leading scientist. The seminars are devoted to innovative aspects of telecommunication technologies (Moscow, 2018).
  • The Laboratory has organized the  IEEE GLOBECOM 2018 international seminar on telecommunications – «Workshop on Cloudified Architectures for 5G and beyond Systems» (Abu Dhabi, UAE, 2018).
Collaborations:
Huawei Technologies (China PR): joint research.
