General information

Name of the project: Impact of speech and cross-cultural context on decision making. Multimodal neuromapping using environmentally valid stimuli as a new tool of research of social cognition.

Goals and objectives

Goals of project:

Creation of a functional model of perception of narratives and video footage in the context of decision making

The practical value of the study

Scientific results:

A functional model of perception of narratives and video footage in the context of decision making has been created during the project implementation.

We have developed and adjusted methods of multimodal neuroimaging using naturalistic stimuli in research of decision making, language processing, and cross-cultural studies. We have conducted research on the brain mechanisms for processing dynamic naturalistic information required for decision making on different time scales. We conducted research on the role of social and cross-cultural contexts in the brain mechanisms for processing dynamic information.

We have developed and implemented computational methods that integrate the research findings from fMRI, behavioral methods, and personality performance metrics in the perception of naturalistic stimuli in experimental paradigms on decision making, language perception, and cross-cultural studies. The breakthrough algorithm for analyzing neurobiological data is the method for studying intersubject correlations (ISC).

Implementation of research results:

The scientific results obtained during the project implementation have been introduced into the pedagogical practice of the National Research University Higher School of Economics: the bachelor's program "Cognitive Neurobiology", the master's program "Cognitive Technologies: From Neuron to Cognition", the master's program "Teaching and Assessment as a Science", interdepartmental courses of the National Research University Higher School of Economics

Hands-on sessions on learning the latest data analysis techniques are regularly held as part of the International Conference on Social Neuroscience in Ecologically Based Settings
