General information

Hans-Uwe Simon is one of the leading international scientists in the field of the molecular mechanisms of inflammation, cell death, and carcinogenesis. His work in the domain of hypereosinophilic syndromes laid the foundations for a new classification of these conditions. Apart from that, with the direct participation of the researcher's group, an anti-eosinophilic drug, mepolizumab, was developed and registered as a medication. The drug is the first in its class. Among other achievements of Prof. Simon are the development of a new corticosteroid therapy method for eosinophilic esophagitis that is currently the main approach to the treatment of this disease.
