Professor at the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Florida State University (USA)
Prof. Alabugin has interdisciplinary proficiency in the field of the molecular design of redox-active heterocyclic systems that are promising as antitumor agents. Under his supervision, research is conducted at the highest level to study the structure and reaction capability of organic compounds, nanomaterials functionalization, the synthesis of graphene structures as well as the fundamental research of stereoelectronic effects. The researchers is renowned for his works on the development of efficient reagents for selective destruction of DNA in tumor cells. Prof. Alabugin's group has developed «hybrid» agents containing photoactive DNA destructors and fragments of amino acids or low-molecular peptides to improve their selectivity with respect to tumor cells. The academic achievements of the researcher have been covered in about 200 scientific publications, resulted in 16 patents and a monograph.
